SETRA SG 221 HDS/Einzelstück/Messebus/Infobus

This SG 221 HDS was originally intended for shuttle services to Southern Europe, but it remained a one-off. Nevertheless, it essentially formed the basis for two other unique high-deckers: the S 215 HDS and the S 216 HDS, which would soon bring many new customers to Kässbohrer. This coach also introduced the 'S' in its designation: it stands for 'Super', and these new high-deckers truly lived up to their name. Measuring 3.63 meters in height, the elevated passenger compartment provided even more space, accommodating both more luggage (16 cubic meters) and additional service amenities. Extra tanks could also be fitted without issue. Regardless of which of the two Super Setras a bus operator chose, the engineering marvel of these two new models from Ulm was the fact that, apart from the front section, they were constructed entirely from the modular components of the 200 series and shared identical bolted assemblies with other Setra touring coaches. The 216 HDS allowed for a maximum of 16 rows of seats. In direct comparison, the underfloor cockpit configuration offered more space. With the Setra SG 221 HDS, Kässbohrer presented a visionary concept, but the ban on using articulated coaches for travel in France led the Ulm engineers to favor solo vehicles. From then on, the SG 221 HDS served as a demonstration and information bus at trade fairs and conferences. Its generously equipped onboard kitchen made it a focal point for representatives and customers.
