SIDEL SBO10 – Blow Molding Machine The SBO10 is designed for the production of PET bottles. Production rate varies depending on capacity. The operator first loads the preform bin using a pallet or forklift into the lifting and tipping unit (SAMETO brand) and loads the preforms into the hopper. The elevator then transfers the preforms to the horizontal feeder, the orienting roller, and finally to the gravity feed guide rails. The following schematic outlines the general process flow for the SBO10 machine, which consists of: 1. Preform feed rails 2. Preform feed wheel 3. Infrared oven 4. Preform transfer wheel 5. Blow wheel 6. Bottle transfer wheel 7. Bottle discharge GENERAL Overview 1. Feeding cold preforms Cold preforms are fed via an inclined chute. Suspended by their necks, they are guided by two rails and descend by gravity. 2. Linear oven for heating preforms Preforms are gripped by the neck in spindles, rotated 180 degrees so the neck faces downward, and rotate past infrared lamps. The linear oven has 10 heating modules, each with 8 infrared lamps. At the oven exit, an infrared camera measures preform temperature, enabling automatic control of all zones. 3. Hot preform transfer wheel A 6-arm transfer wheel transports the heated preforms from the oven to the blow molds. 4. Preform ejection If a preform’s temperature is incorrect, an ejection system after the transfer wheel removes it. 5. Blow wheel Preforms are placed into the molds, which open and close via a linkage system driven by a cam. The mold is mechanically locked. The blow nozzle delivers the stretch rod for axial orientation. A camera network synchronizes the entire process. Molds are temperature-controlled by circulating cooled water. 6. Bottle transfer wheel A 6-arm transfer wheel removes bottles from the molds and evacuates them from the blow wheel. 7. Bottle ejection A discharge system with photoelectric sensors is installed after the transfer wheel. If a bottle is defective, it is removed. 8. Bottle discharge wheel An 8-pocket discharge wheel collects bottles from the transfer arms and places them onto a conveyor belt, held in place by guides.
