HOW THE PROCESS WORKS
This process allows metal parts to be machined contactlessly and with high precision. An electrically conductive electrolyte—saltwater—is introduced between a negatively charged tool electrode (cathode) and a positively charged workpiece (anode). In the machining gap between the electrode and the workpiece, the electrolyte removes the ionised material anodically.
The electrode is reproduced in reverse on the metal. The precise current pulse, the oscillating tool electrode, and the extremely small working gap form the basis of the technology’s precision. The PECM process is an advancement of electrochemical sinking.
By using synchronized current pulses and an oscillating tool electrode, PEMTec establishes the foundation for a very small machining gap, enabling highly precise and economical production, with no tool wear caused by the process. Workpieces are produced entirely contact-free and without thermal or mechanical influences, achieving replication accuracy and repeatability in the low micrometer range, and surface quality of up to 0.03 µm.
