3.1 Tests according to Charpy
The Charpy supports are made of solid cast base bodies. Test-specific components, such as anvils and supports, are selected according to the specimen requirement. The supports, which can have a significant effect on measurement results due to their surface finish and radius, are manufactured entirely by precision CNC and 100% inspected. ZwickRoell does not offer one-piece supports, as tight tolerances are difficult to achieve. The correct spatial positioning of the supports in relation to the pendulum fin is ensured using an optional gauge during installation.
Supports are subject to more wear than anvils; two-part supports can be replaced independently of other accessories at low cost. Quick-change adapter plates are used to adjust the impact point to the specimen width (in the direction of impact). Adaptation to specimen thickness (vertical direction) is achieved by means of appropriately dimensioned anvils, which are precisely inserted with locating pins.
Optional accessories for the impact frame include a swivel-mounted protective screen and alignment units, which position the specimen at the center of impact either at the notch or at one end face.
